K-8 Dual Language Immersion 90/10 Academy
In the Dual Language Immersion 90/10 Academy, students learn a second language (whether it be Spanish or English) without compromising the first. Spanish is emphasized in the early grades. Therefore, English speakers are exposed to the target language of Spanish. Spanish speakers, conversely, have the opportunity to expand their vocabulary and build a strong base in their primary language so that they can successfully acquire English orally and later transferring reading and writing skills into English. In our program, Spanish and English instruction is always kept separate, thus allowing for maximized concentration in both languages.
A Priceless Resource
The dual language proficiency that is offered to Escuela Popular Students is a priceless resource that provides children with the self-confidence to believe that they can, indeed, succeed as students. This belief motivates students to continue their careers as life long learners. And ultimately, their linguistic aptitude increases their marketability, and therefore salary potential, in the California workforce. A bilingual individual contributes many skills beyond that of speaking another language. A bilingual individual can more easily adapt to new situations, appreciate opposing views and navigate in a growing global society where knowing more than one language has become the norm. The Dual Language Academy currently serves grades kinder to eight.
